December 10, 2008: Another strong showing for the Knights at the Provincial championships held in Calgary the weekend of December 6th/7th going 4 wins and 1 loss.

  • Cody Gates won another great match against tough Kyle Buchberger, out of Slave Lake Alberta to earn his spot on at the Junior National Championships in the 66kg cadet C division.
  • Robbie Cusine beat Sydney Binding in the junior 60kg division for his spot at the Junior National Championships in Edmonton at the end of February.
  • Kyle Matuk won in the senior 81kg division, earning his place to represent Alberta at the Senior Canadian Championships in Trois Rivieres, Quebec at the end of January
  • Chess Bussley won in the semifinals over Paul Lewis of Calgary but lost to tough Jonathan Andre in the final and will now have to compete in a box-off against Alex Rose and Craig Morgan, both of Calgary and for the right to represent Alberta as the second man in the senior 69kg division along side Jonathan Andre in Trois Rivieres, Quebec.

This puts our total club record at 28 wins against 10 losses in 14 months of competition and we are very proud that we are not one of those clubs that keep our athletes in the novice category (under 10 fights) for years in order to ensure easy wins against real novices with just a few months training, instead taking competition at every opportunity and allowing our training systems and conditioning programs to score our victories, tomorrows champions today! December 1, 2008: The Knights return for a second season! Cody Gates, now in the open class, won his division at the Western Canadian Championships. Robbie Cusine began the season boxing in his youth 60kg division, but moved up to the Elite 60kg division - and won gold in both age classes! Kyle Matuk joined us from Oshawa this summer and won three fights by stopping his opponents and losing only one to Elite 165# Canadian Champion Andrew Gardiner out of Winnipeg.

The boys are now preparing to qualify for the National Championships. Kyle will travel to Trois Rivieres, Quebec in late January, while Robbie and Cody will fight right here in Edmonton at the end of February.

We are expecting three National Champions this year and are also busy developing a team of 7-8 novices for the novice Bronze Gloves in January.
